How to upgrade running AMI to the latest on self hosting

Goal

Upgrade AMIMOTO AMI  Amazon Linux edition to the latest.

You can find details on Amazon Linux AMI 2016.03 Release Notes (at the time of writing).

 

Note

Following some example commands start with $ or #, you should copy without them.

 

Updating steps

  1. SSH to your instance via Terminal.app or your favourite terminal software
    $ ssh -i ~/path/to/your/pemfile.pem ec2-user@IP-address-or-domain
  2. Run following command:
    $ sudo su -
    # curl -L -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/amimoto-ami/amimoto-update/master/amimoto_update.sh | bash
    # reboot
  3. After the restarting instance, connect to the server again and check updated AMI:
    Last login: xxx xxx xx xx:xx:xx xxxx from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

  4. Updating the AMI has completed successfully.
    Confirm that there are no abnormalities such as a display collapse of the site.
